Danny...   Handsome, True and Brave! You were definitely one of the GOOD GUYS! A friend to all, a gentleman, caring, happy. You gave me kindness when I had none. You shared laughter when I was sad. You were a one of a kind. I will celebrate your life and memory. God Speed my friend. I am sorry I never stayed in touch. God Bless.

I grew up in Meadowbrook Estates (Germantown) with Danny and we spent many years playing together as kids. My stroll down memory lane brings to mind:

  • Building skateboards using 2x4s attached to a roller skate.
  • Playing pick-up football games in the neighborhood. (He used to pummel me.)
  • Swimming in the pool (his or mine) and annoying any girls that might be swimming with us.
  • Building a tree fort in the woods on the farm property surrounding the neighborhood and swinging on the rope swing from the fort's "balcony".
  • Riding Roy Warner's Tool Trooper motor scooter at night on the farm.
  • Being chased by cows.
  • Building a ground fort, then seeing it go up in flames several days later when an errant cigarette butt ignited a mattress. (What? Us smoking? )
  • Getting my left index finger sliced open when Danny swung a sickle while doing some lawn work.
  • Using a slingshot to propel cherry bombs and ashcans high in the air so they'd explode over the roofs of the houses at night.
  • Family fishing trips on my father's boat in the Chesapeake Bay—and the surprise/excitement of catching a number of cownose rays in addition to the many blues and rockfish we brought home to eat.

So many fond memories. Rest in Peace, Danny!
