Donald Hottinger

After graduation I went to work for Gaithersburg Glass. In Army from Oct. 1970 to May 1972. Spent my Army time in Germany as clerk after being diverted from Viet Nam. Was also Airborne and made twelve parachute jumps. After returning home, I went back to Gaithersburg Glass. Got married in Nov. 1972. My first son was born Nov. 1978. My business partner and I bought Gaithersburg Glass in Aug. 1983. My second son was born in Feb. 1985. My business partner passed away in May 2001 and I sold the company in Feb. 2007. I went to work part time as a sales rep for a wholesale glass co. in Dec. 2007. I work from home as the company is in N. Carolina and I work about four hours a day. No more headaches. I also played in a men's touch football league for fifteen years and softball for thirty five years and still counting. I have also been dragracing since 1983. I've had four different race cars and my current one is a 230" dragster. It runs the 1/4 mile in 7.90 seconds at 169 mph.
My son Bryan was a Damascus High grad and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration, and my son Daniel was a Damascus grad and after one semester at Montgomery College, went to and graduated from the Nascar Technical Institute in N. Carolina. Bryan lives in Charleston, S. Carolina and Daniel lives in Frederick, Md.. Both are still single. My wife has been with Putle Homes since Dec. 1972 in several different capacities.
I just bought an auto repair business July 1st, 2009. My son Daniel is running it and is the main mechanic. I take care of the business and financial end. I'm also keeping my sales rep job for now. At the age of 58, this is my last year playing softball due to my back and shoulder. I lost my sales rep job in Dec. 2009 and am now just helping my son take care of the auto repair business. My son Daniel just got married on September 26, 2010 and I'm going to have my first grandson in June 2011. I went to work for Banner Glass as an estimator in Apr. 2011 and quit in Apr. 2012. Went to work part time for AMSCO in Damascus in Nov. 2012 and started drawing social security July 2013. We sold the auto repair business in Sept. 2013. I'm going to have a grandaughter in August, 2014. My son Brian is still living in Mt. Pleasant, S. Carolina and is still single. I now have a grandson and a grandaughter. My son Daniel bought a house in Martinsburg, WV in Sept. 2014. I left AMSCO and went to work for Banner Glass in Rockvile as an estimator for twenty hours a week in February, 2016. Banner Glass closed up in May and I went back to Amsco. I sold my dragster in May 2017. No more racing. My son Daniel and his wife divorced in Sept. 2018 and Daniel got full custody of the kids. I now help picking up the grandkids when needed especially on Fridays when I'm off as I now work 4 days a week.
